Happy 20th Birthday to Me!

in , by RoyallyPink, 11:00 AM
Today is my 20th birthday.

I am 20 years old.

The thought is rather sickening if I'm being honest. I love my birthday so much; I'm one of those people who relish in the attention on the day of their birth but would rather hide behind the curtains the other 364 days a year.

This birthday I was dreading all week. I'm not a teenager anymore. That is the weirdest feeling in the entire world. I no longer have the excuse "I'm just a teenager" and I can't be called a teen. It's really not acceptable for me to shop in the juniors department or read YA novels because I am adult.

I feel like I'm going through a midlife crisis.

I'm in my twenties! I am a twenty something!

My teenage years were anything but ordinary; they were tumultuous and exciting and nerve wracking and reckless. I was a mess from the tender age of 13 but I have matured.

I still remember my 13th birthday party, clear as day. It was the best party ever and I had so much fun, dancing the night away with my best friends. I was so excited to be a teenager! Finally, I was no longer a baby but a teenager! It was the most exciting time in my life.

Then came my Sweet 16; it feels like a month ago, not four years. I had a beautiful dress, a great DJ, and the best people around me. It was one of the most memorable nights of my life.

But now I am 20 years old.

Those teenage years and mistakes are behind me and yes, I could still have fun and people say that your 20s are a beautiful time but I am just one step closer to adulthood and it scares me.

I am a tad bit excited because I am a twenty something; soon I'll start my career and my dreams will start coming true.

There is always a bright side!

But for now, happy birthday to me; I'll be spending the rest of the day and weekend with my best friends and having a grand old time...partying it up one last time before I become an old maid.

A baby me, 20 years ago!

I am an avid online shopper so it's only natural that I would be saving up money for the two biggest shopping days of the year; Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

I couldn't wait to crack my bank account open and go to town with all the fabulous deals that were being featured over the Thanksgiving weekend.

I ordered a bunch of stuff...some for myself, some as Christmas presents for others, and I already received some of them!

I got this Madewell iPHONE case for $9 when the usual price was $18.
I'm pretty sure I had free shipping also!

I've had my eye on this Kate Spade Nook case for quite a while. It was featured on Barnes and Noble.com for the longest time for the cheap price of $14; on Black Friday and a B&N coupon, I got the regularly priced $30 case for just $10 (SCORE!)

I have wanted something from J.Crew for months now and I have also been dying for a new sweater. J.Crew Factory was having an incredible sale and I got this Merino Classic Crewneck Pullover for $30 when it's usually $70. OMG. I'm wearing it on this chilly November afternoon and I've never been more comfortable. It's the softest sweater I own and I kind of want one in every single color!

I got some other great goodies such as some Julep Maven nail polish, a bunch of stuff from Forever 21, and a brand new Maybook!

I also bought some gifts for my friends and my mom.

I love this time of year and it's so great to buy things for yourself but also for others who do so much for you year round!

Hopefully you all took advantage of the holiday shopping spree and bought some great stuff too :)

iPAD Love

in , , by RoyallyPink, 1:27 PM
My birthday is on Friday (the big 2.0..gahh!) and I wanted one thing and one thing only. I've been asking for it since last year and have waited patiently for it's arrival.

Last week over Thanksgiving, I was presented with my early birthday present from my mom and aunt.

A brand new, beautiful, white iPAD 2!

I was so excited to get this and start filling it up with different apps and wonderful goodies.

Yes, I have a Macbook and an iPHONE but I feel as if the iPAD is so useful, if used correctly! In the week that I've had it, I have definitely proven my theory correct.

The iPAD is obviously smaller and sleeker than a laptop so it's much more practical to carry around to class and work. I realized I was bringing my laptop everywhere I went on campus because I needed it for class and it was getting to be too much.

I haven't had my laptop on me all week and my shoulders are thanking me.

I could do everything on my iPAD that I could on my laptop--I even wrote a paper on it the other day and it was easier than I thought.

I love how browsing the web and reading a newspaper is more fun and a tad bit easier on the iPAD..the touch screen makes it a little more entertaining and is easier because you don't have to go through the keyboard or mouse, just your fingertips.

If you have the right applications, you can get a ton of work done on the iPAD. I downloaded "Documents" where you can write and transfer documents just as if you were in Microsoft Word. I also have Google Docs and Google Drive which makes it easy to transfer anything and everything from your iPAD to computer.

The Blackboard app is a lifesaver both on my iPAD and iPHONE because whenever something new is posted from one of my classes, it pops up right on my homescreen and I don't need to be by my computer to access it. That was always my biggest concern.

Most people would say that typing on an iPAD is difficult but if you are an expert typer (and in this day, who isn't an expert typer?) it shouldn't be hard. I almost like typing on the iPAD screen better than an actual keyboard. Welcome to the 21st century!

I subscribe to Entertainment Weekly and because I get them mailed to my house, I am never up to date with them at school. That problem has totally been solved with my digital subscription and I love it! I downloaded the past few issues of EW but also bought the Sexiest Man Alive issue of People Magazine.

I didn't know how I would feel about reading magazines on anything other than good old print but I LOVE IT! I love the added features that you get from a tablet edition and how it's more interactive, it's wonderful. I might start buying all my magazines on the iPAD...(eh, maybe not. I love a good print copy).

Another great thing about the iPAD...the wonderful, gorgeous accessories that come along with it! I obviously needed a case so my aunt and uncle bought me this lovely polka dotted Kate Spade case for my birthday and I love it!

I love the folio type so it protects the screen when I'm not using it.

I definitely will invest in a sleeve and back cover also because the folio cover is a little bulky.

Altogether, the iPAD is wonderful. I love it to the moon and back; I think it is so useful and can be used in so many different ways for different people.

Tuesday Inspiration

The end of the semester is rearing it's ugly head and I'm sure we could all use a extra push!

Have a great day :)

It is no secret that I love my sorority, Phi Sigma Sigma with everything I have. I live, breathe, and eat Phi Sig.. It is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me and I hold it with such high respect and pride.

Today is our founders day and we are celebrating our 99th birthday. We were founded at Hunter College in NYC on November 26th, 1913 by the best 10 founding sisters.

This is an extra special founders day because two weeks ago, I was elected Vice Archon for the upcoming 2013 school year. It is such an honor to hold this position and I cannot wait to dive right into it.

I love Phi Sigma Sigma and I will always uphold the standards and values that my sisters and the sorority hold.

LITP !!!

Happy Thanksgiving!

in , by RoyallyPink, 11:53 AM
Today is an American holiday that I love to celebrate! There is just something special about Thanksgiving and you can feel it in the air.

The food, the family, the football...there is so much joy when we sit around the table with our families and friends, I just love it!

Today I am thankful for SO many things in my life: my family, my friends, my sorority sisters, my education, my health, and all those little materialistic things that don't seem so important when you look at the bigger picture.

I am thankful for all of my readers too!

I hope you enjoy the day with your families and friends! Eat lots of food and be thankful for all the blessings in your life, I know I am <3

'etoile Nails

in , , by RoyallyPink, 12:29 PM

My nail polish obsession is only growing worse with each day.

I mentioned this nail polish a few posts ago because I received it in my November Birchbox. I decided this week to try it out and I am so happy with the results.

The polish looks so pretty in the bottle but even better on your nails.

It's the perfect chrome blue; it is very shiny and has a sheen that reflects on your nails. It has a hint of sparkle but it's not glittered.

The formula is great, one of the best I've ever used. It goes on very smooth and two coats is more than enough.

This is such a great polish and the pale blue fits for either winter or summer so it can be worn year round.

'etolie is a great brand and I really think I'm going to make a few more purchases in the near future.

Real Book vs. E-Reader

in , , , , by RoyallyPink, 8:00 AM
This seems to be the debate of the century...what is more popular, a good old hardcover book or the technology of an e-reader.

There are pros and cons to each of them and to be honest, I enjoy both of them.

When e-readers first came out, I never thought I would want one but then I thought about it; I read at an abnormally fast pace. I will finish a book and need to start another one immediately and I can't always run to the book store whenever I want.

Also, the books are slightly cheaper so that was a plus also. Ultimately, two years ago, my aunt convinced me to let her buy me a Barnes and Noble Nook for high school graduation. It was the best decision I ever made.

I LOVE my nook. It makes reading different and a little more fun. I had the classic Nook, with e-ink, not a tablet. My nook broke this summer so I got the new Nook Touch, plain and simple. I don't want to read on a tablet because that's similar to reading on a computer and that doesn't fly with me.

I love that I have access to books at any given time during the day. I could read as much as I want and always have something new to read.

Reading on an e-reader makes the time go faster; you don't realize how many pages are being turned which I really like.

An e-reader is practical; you can bring as many books as you like with you wherever you go. If you want to change what you're reading, you can do it with just the click of a button.

There are also so many different types of e-readers, nooks, kindles, tablets, and regular e-readers. There are so many options when it comes to e-readers and I really think it's a great gadget for a book worm to have.

Granted, there are those people who will never be able to give up their regular books. I am also one of those people.

There is nothing greater than spending hours in the book store, going down the aisles and picking out different books you want.

A computer cannot take the place of that.

I still buy regular books because I will never not love the feeling of a real book. Turning the pages, holding the actual book in your hand, it's hard to explain but a computerized book just isn't the same.

I don't think books will ever be obsolete  because there are always going to be people who prefer a normal book but e-readers are taking over the world.

Whether you are a old time book lover or you joined the 21st century, all that matters is that you are reading :)

Fabulous Beauty Find!

in , , by RoyallyPink, 2:56 PM
A few weeks ago, before Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast, I went to CVS to stock up on some items. I thought I'd need to stay busy during the rough rain so I went straight to the beauty aisle.

I've been wanting to do a facial mask for a while but never find the time. While buying my St. Ives Facial Scrub, I came upon this little gem and couldn't pass it up!

Usually facial masks come at a one time use in a little packet but this bad boy is huge! I was so happy that I could buy a mask that I could continually use.

I've used it twice already and I love it! It goes on very smooth, has a great smell and texture. It forms a great mask that isn't too hard but still feel awesome. It's a clay mask so it's not really sticky or oily.

Every time I wash it off, my face feels uber smooth and very fresh. I've even seen an improvement in my skin, not as many breakouts and combining it with my scrub and moisturizer, it's a great facial routine!

Plus, the price was pretty low, I think it cost me around $4. If you can find this Freeman Avocado and Oatmeal Face Mask, BUY IT!

I am flat broke. My bank account is at an all time low and it's stressing me out but it is not defeating my spirit because I am still pining for a bunch of stuff that I would be buying if my account was full.

Anything from key chains to notebooks to sweaters, I just want everything! Good thing my birthday and Christmas are coming up, otherwise I'd be in a deep shopping depression.

Happy Birthday Lilly!

in , , , by RoyallyPink, 11:24 PM

Today is the queen of pink and green's birthday! It's been marked in my planner and I have been counting down the days...Happy birthday Lilly Pulitzer!

I think Lilly is so special and I wish I could spend every last cent I have on something Lilly but unfortunately I cannot so here are some of the new Lilly stuff I wish I could have:

November Birchbox

in , by RoyallyPink, 3:04 PM
The beginning of a new month is back and that means one thing...BIRCHBOX!

If you haven't signed up yet, I advise you to do that right now. It's relatively cheap, $10 a month, and it's amazing to get a surprise in the mail every month.

Birchbox has opened my eyes to a whole different world of beauty products. I can't explain how much I love it!

This month's box was just like the rest..a wonderful gift with great products!

In this month's box I received:

1. 'etoile: Diamond Dust Polish Collection:

I was so excited to see that I received yet another polish in my birchbox. I tested out the polish last night and it's such a great color. It's a chrome colored blue and it goes on very smoothly and very neat. It's the perfect winter color.

2. Jouer: Fragrance Cornucopia:

Yet another perfume; I cannot even begin to explain how many perfume samples I've collected over the past few months but this is different. This is a roll on perfume and the smell is very light. It has a musk like smell but very feminine. I like it and will definitely add it to my daily routine.

3. Lulu Organics Lavender + Clary Sage Hair Powder:

I've been meaning to purchase a dry shampoo so I was ecstatic when I saw this in my box. I haven't tried it out yet but I will and when I do, I will let you know!

4. ModelCo Fibre Lashxtend Lengthening Mascara:

This is the best part of the box!! It's a full length masacra and it has gorgeous packaging. I used it this morning and it goes on very light. I usually just use the original green and pink Maybelline mascara and it goes on very harsh, not ideal for the day but this mascara is the opposite of that! This brightened up my eyes and it was the only makeup I  wore all day and it looked awesome!

5. SoyJoy Cranberry Snack Pack:

This was the bonus in the Birchbox this month. I'm not a huge fan of soy but this was delicious! I might definitely be purchasing these in the near future.

Election 2012!

in , , , , , , by RoyallyPink, 11:27 AM

Today is the most important day in the US, it's ELECTION DAY! Our entire lives will change based on the results we get tonight.

I'm not big on politics, I don't pay attention very much. That's not because I don't care, because I do, it's because I don't really understand everything. That might make me seem naive and stupid but I know what I need to know in order to vote.

I was so excited when I turned 18 two years ago and was able vote! That's the first thing I said on my birthday, I couldn't wait for 2012 to vote in the next Presidential election.

I applied for an absentee ballot about a month ago and received it in the mail. I was like a kid on Christmas, I couldn't believe I was going to be able to cast my ballot and attempt to make a difference in the United States.

It's so important to get out and vote today. Don't think your vote doesn't matter, EVERY VOTE COUNTS! The media is saying it's going to be a close race tonight so in this election, it's the truth that your vote matters.

If you're 18 and you have the ability to get out there and cast your ballot, GO! It's the most important day in our country and it matters.

Here's to a new a president by the end of the day!

1. What is currently on your wish-list?

My birthday is November 30th and I'm pestering my mom to get me an iPAD so that's definitely on my wish-list.

I also really want the Patagonia Fleece Pullover

2. What is the new Fall TV show that is on your DVR?

I've been super busy this fall but the one show I fell in love with is NBC's "The New Normal". It's brilliant and hysterical. It's so different from anything on television with a gay couple having a baby through a surrogate. It's funny, offensive, and touching all at the same time. It's amazing!

3. Share your Social Media links for you to follow and explain your favorite one.

My favorite is definitely twitter; I don't go an hour without checking twitter. I love being constantly updated on everything and everyone. I was one of the first people I know to use twitter and I'm addicted. I want to tweet everything about my life and I want to hear everything everyone else has to say. I love it!

4. What is a TV show, movie, or song you could watch or listen to and never get sick of (feel free to name more than one): Gilmore Girls, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, Grease, Dirty Dancing, Sweet Home Alabama, The Notebook, any Taylor Swift song, I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing by AeroSmith..there's a bunch more

Join the League

in , by RoyallyPink, 7:55 PM
If you are a frequent reader of "The College Prepster", you've definitely heard about The Levo League, a website for young professional women looking to connect with other young professional women.

At the first mention of Levo from Carly, I jumped on the bandwagon and signed up! I haven't regretted a moment since.

Levo is filled with loads of stuff that can help you on your internship/job search and with women who want to help you.

The wonderful group of women who work at Levo write helpful articles with tips and information that you can use in the professional world such as "8 Productivity Tools and Strategies" and "Getting Ahead While You're Still in College".

Every article I've read on Levo League has helped me in some way or another, whether it was information I needed at the moment or could use later on in life.

I really enjoy their Office Hours that they host weekly with different kinds of successful women (and some men) who have a word of advice to offer. Women that they have had include Laura Berger, the Intern Queen, and Christina Hassler, Life Coach and Author of "Twenty Something, Twenty Everything."

I follow a bunch of the Levo women on twitter and one of them, the lovely Elana, tweeted about participating in an article about the benefits of Greek life and because I am such an advocate for Greek Life, I responded and was featured in one of her articles.

Levo League is such an amazing resource and it's becoming bigger every day.

It truly gives women the confidence to move forward in their careers and reassure them that they have the tools and ability to do whatever they want too.

If you're a young woman who wants a good, strong career in whatever field your heart desires, join Levo League.. you will not regret it.

Thank you St. Ives

in , , by RoyallyPink, 2:35 PM

I've blogged before about my love for my Neutrogena Wave Sonic and how great I think it is but I always like a change.

This week with Hurricane Sandy, I ran out of cleanser pads and needed a face-wash, fast.

I usually go with Clean and Clear or another Neutrogena product but I didn't have that much cash on me and I kind of wanted to go with something different.

I saw the St Ives Apricot Scrub for less than $5 so I decided to try that.

I really love a good scrub, it makes my face and body feel so much cleaner than a regular cream or gel cleanser.

I had been breaking out recently, probably from stress, and the wave sonic just wasn't cutting it anymore. I already feel a slight difference in my skin; it feels a lot fresher and with the cold weather coming, that's what is important.

I really like this scrub and I think I will be using it a lot more in the future.

Hello November

in , by RoyallyPink, 7:58 PM

With all that's been happening in the tri-state area, Halloween passed us by and November came upon us.

October is my 2nd favorite month aside from November; it has so many amazing things. This is the month where it starts to get really cold and you really have to wear a jacket.

It's the true start to the holiday season and it's acceptable to play Christmas music. Thanksgiving is just the best holiday ever and then Black Friday and Cyber Monday occur, making for the best shopping deals ever.

My birthday is also in November and this year it's special because I will be 20 years old, leaving my horrid teenage years behind.

I truly love November and I always try to savor every single day. I hate that the beginning of my favorite month is being tainted by this horrible hurricane aftermath but I have full faith that November will bring wonderful things.

Happy November !!
